The October war had a fundamental impact on international relations not only by testing the durability of U.S.-Soviet détente but also by compelling the United States to put the Arab-Israeli conflict on the top of its foreign policy agenda. Recently declassified U.S. archival material, unearthed by the National Security Archive, provides critically important information on American policies, perceptions, and decisions during the conflict. The collection is fully available in digital form. You can reach a certain document either by going to a certain “reference” as issued by the PRO or by searching in the title or the date. The “reference” indicates the government department that issued this document.
